Please note: Consultation is NOT a substitution for formal training. In order to participate in consultations, you must be either certified or in the process of completing the training offered by the Doherty Relationship Institute.

We all know the goal of discernment counseling: we help couples “gain clarity and confidence in their decision making about the future of their marriage based on a deeper understanding of what has happened in the marriage and each person’s contributions to the problems.”
To help couples gain that deeper understanding, we need to be able to quickly recognize the systemic patterns that have developed in the marriage and we need to be able to help each spouse see their own role. This is what makes discernment counseling so challenging and so rewarding.
This group focuses on both elements: seeing the patterns and knowing how to present those patterns in a way that encourages each spouse to assume personal agency for their own contributions.
