Ginny Wright has been a clinical psychologist for over 30 years and a Certified Discernment Counselor for over six years. Having completed an advanced residency program with the Doherty Relationship Institute, she is now one of nine professionals to earn the title of Discernment Counseling Master Practitioner.

Educational & Professional Background

Dr. Wright graduated with distinction in psychology from Duke University in 1986. Before starting her graduate studies, she spent a year working at a runaway shelter outside of Washington, D.C. She then earned her doctoral degree from the Child & Family Clinical Psychology program at Michigan State University and completed her internship at Children’s Memorial (now Lurie Children’s) Hospital in Chicago.  Prior work positions include staff psychologist at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and staff psychologist at the Child Protection Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 

Dr. Wright co-founded Drs. Lapporte, Wright & Assoc., PC in 1994.  She sees clients of all ages and works with individuals, couples and families. Specializations include: Discernment Counseling, child and adolescent psychology, family systems therapy, couples therapy, medical psychology and performance psychology.

Clinical Style & Personal Background

Dr. Wright’s clinical style can be described as “solution-focused” and direct. Clients appreciate her willingness to comfortably engage using a real-life interaction style, while still bringing years of experience and knowledge to every session. Her therapeutic style is informed by multiple therapy approaches, including family systems theory, CBT and third-wave CBT approaches. developmental psychology and choice/reality therapy.

Dr. Wright has been married for over 25 years and has young adult (boy-girl) twins. She loves spending time with family and friends, tolerates working out, and finds contentment playing the piano and working in the garden — if the rabbits don’t get there first.
