FAQS

Because we use standard procedure codes for billing, insurance will process your claims per usual. However, please note that we almost always use a diagnosis code of Z63.0 “Problems in relationship with spouse or partner.” Not all insurance companies will cover services for this diagnosis. As always, it is the client’s responsibility to know insurance coverage.

Our fees are the same for discernment as they are for all therapy sessions. However, discernment counseling sessions are configured uniquely. Most sessions are a total of 2 hours and are spent in a combination of individual and joint meetings. Typically, each spouse is billed for approximately 40-50 minutes of individual time and the couple is billed jointly for 30-40 minutes. In all, the two hour session is billed at approximately $200-$250/hour.

We are in network with BCBS PPO (including Choice/Options) and Medicare only. With other insurance plans, we are often able to file on your behalf so that you can (hopefully) get some of the service covered by your out-of-network benefits. In this case, you pay in full for the service and insurance reimbursement is sent to you.

All clients are required to have a credit card on file and this is the default form of payment. Note that there is a 3% credit card fee added. (HSA and debit cards are exempt from these fees; please make sure you indicate if this is the card you are using.) We are also set up for electronic check/ACH payments which can be made without extra service fees.

If you have a BCBS PPO policy or Medicare, we will only collect co-pays and deductible amounts. If insurance does not pay, you will be billed for the balance. With all other insurance plans, we are required to collect payment at the time of service.

I am a participating provider with PsyPact which is an inter-jurisdictional agreement between states that allows for telehealth to be provided between clients and providers of participating states. Because Medicare and BCBS PPO policies allow for national coverage, these insurance policies should work just fine.
